You will need to file IRS Form 5695 with your taxes. Make sure you keep all of your receipts proving that you purchased the energy saving improvements. It might be a good idea to keep the Energy Star labels and any documentation that came with the items purchased.

Keep in mind there are a lot of different items you can claim for the home energy tax deduction. Here are some to name a few: Central air conditioner, heat pump, water heater, bio-corn stove, furnace or boiler.

I live in an apartment and I think it's crazy that I can't file my taxes til January because I have to wait for the form to be finished. They should have something that redirects you if you don't need this form!

Our house was built in 1986 - insulation was installed at the time the house was built. Is their currently a tax credit in Sept. of 2011 for replacement or added insulation? Please respond.

my home was built in 2005 and the man ames theriot didn't put insurlation anywhere in my home.i didn't know about that until after the fact.i was very upset for i'm on a fixed income of $926.00 a month.i would like to learn more about this tax credit. my e-mail address ritatauzin123@aol.com

dont mention wood stoves if you do they will want to tax your smoke. I think they already mentioned it actually.

The credits are now good through 2010, so if you've been putting it off or weren't sure, do it now!
